Returning to Normal Activities After Erection Device & Testicular Implants

You survived your final phalloplasty surgery but now you’re itching to get back to normal life.

You need to pace yourself during this recovery. You will likely have the energy to do more things than you should be doing.

Let’s go over when it’s safe to resume normal activities. Please remember this is only a general guide. This is not a replacement for specific instructions given to you by your surgeon.

Household Chores:

You will need help for the first week or 2 with general cleaning. I was able to start light cleaning around the 2 week mark. Just stick to your weight limit(for most surgeons it’s 10Lb).

For laundry, be careful with heavy laundry baskets. Ask for help if they are too heavy or do smaller more frequent loads.

Next, if you have pets. It’s advised not to lift heavy food or litter bags while you have lifting restrictions. So ask for help or before surgery per-fill small containers.

Driving and Returning To Work:

For driving you will need to be off all narcotic medications for at least 24 hours. Make sure you have full mobility back before driving.

Next is when you can go back to work. For desk or remote jobs most surgeons clear you around 1 week post-op. However, if you are required to prop, going into a work place can be tricky. So it’s usually advised to work remotely when you can. For physically demanding jobs, most surgeons have you wait the full 6 weeks.

For most surgeons, the 6 week mark is when your lifting restrictions are lifted and you are cleared for all normal activities.

For the gym I would recommend starting with light weight and low impact activity. Increasing your weights as your body allows.

I will go over when you can resume sexual activity in nexts week email about sexual activity after getting an erection device.

Stay Steady,

Today we are going to talk about wound care, propping, and personal hygiene after having an erection device and testicular implants placed. Wound care is pretty simple compared to other stages of phalloplasty. There are usually just 2 incisions on the sides of your scrotum. Most surgeons just have you apply an antibacterial ointment like Bacitracin twice per day and keep the area uncovered. That’s it! Some surgeons recommend propping your penis after this surgery but others do not. My surgeon...

Waking up after surgery with new hardware in your body can bring some unfamiliar sensations. Here is what to expect: Your penis will be semi-pumped up after surgery. It will feel hard, which is so euphoric! It will most likely be a little sensitive, especially while milking. Your scrotum will be very swollen initially. Making it feel hard. This is temporary. As the swelling goes down, it will soften up. You will most likely be able to feel both the cylinder in your penis and the pump in your...

A lot of people are nervous about how to use their erection device. You think, “What if I can’t get it deflated?” “What if I can’t inflated it during intimacy?” My best piece of advice is to practice! AND don’t leave your surgeons office without doing a test run. You need to be sure that you can operate the device on your own. Do not let the surgeon make you feel rushed. Here are some helpful tips on how to operate the pump erection device. Hold the pump bulb steady with your non-dominant...
