Erection Device & Testicular Implants: Wound care, Propping, And Personal Hygiene

Today we are going to talk about wound care, propping, and personal hygiene after having an erection device and testicular implants placed.

Wound care is pretty simple compared to other stages of phalloplasty. There are usually just 2 incisions on the sides of your scrotum. Most surgeons just have you apply an antibacterial ointment like Bacitracin twice per day and keep the area uncovered. That’s it!

Some surgeons recommend propping your penis after this surgery but others do not. My surgeon recommended that I prop for 6 weeks. The way he explained is that propping helps the erection device from shifting down your penis. He suggested I point my penis upwards towards my belly and secure it with the waistband of my underwear.

Now let’s talk about personal hygiene. Most surgeons recommend you wait until 24 hours post-op to shower. It’s very important you shower daily to keep the area clean as infection is the #1 complication with this surgery.

It can be challenging to bend over early post-op, so I would recommend using a long handled loofah in the shower.

Now for urinating, I found I could aim just fine even being semi-pumped up. But my milking technique had to temporarily change.

Since your scrotum is healing and swollen, you won’t be able to press on it during milking. You also will not be able to put much pressure on your penis either.

I found gently applying pressure to the underside of my penis where the ED wasn’t located was helpful. I also found letting my penis hang and leaning forward a little bit helped get the urine out as well.

Lastly, let’s talk about having a bowel movement after this surgery. My best piece of advice is to NOT stop taking the laxatives too early! I made this mistake and the straining caused me pain in my incisions. Ouch!

I’m telling you now recovery is much easier and less stressful when you are prepared and have a plan. That's why I built a Phalloplasty Recovery System. I wish I had this system when I was going through my own recovery. It would have saved me so much stress and prevented mistakes that I made. My recovery would have be genuinely easier and far less stressful.
